Winston-Salem Air Show

Cheeto here. Shena asked me to post captions for these pictures from an airshow that the boys and grandpa A and I went to a while back. It was cool. We had fun. Well worth the money (boys were free) and we will do it again.

Just as we were walking in the gates a couple of F-15's did two or three fly by's. Pretty cool. I didn't get a picture.

Some airplanes. They flew. They weren't flying, though, when I took the picture. It's a good picture.

K standing next to an old airplane with an almost flat tire. I would think flat tires would be bad for an airplane, but maybe not...since airplanes fly. K looks like a tourist with the bag around his neck.

These planes were going to fly too. They also were not flying when I took the picture (I know this because there is a car right next to the plane on the left - can you see it? - ...and I don't remember any flying cars in the show).

A C-5. The picture doesn't do it justice. Sucker was HUGE and looked like it was going about 15 mph as it flew by. Really, it was BIG. Trust me.

There were a couple of Harrier's that were in town for the show, too. They couldn't land the cool way because the Winston-Salem airport doesn't have a concrete runway and they said the engines would tear the asphalt up. That means they are cool planes.

Most of the pictures of planes in action are some "kit" planes that were built by the pilots. That's gutsy. They said some of the planes were being flown by pilots who did NOT build their own plane but someone else did...that's REALLY gutsy. Impressive flying, none-the-less.

Kit built. Can't you tell? See the duct tape holding the wheels on?

The Army 101st jumpers who opened the show and brought down the flag for the national anthem. We were sitting by the VIP tent where all the performers came after they were done for free food and to watch the rest of the show. K was brave enough to ask for a picture as they walked passed. Then he yelled "Marine Corps!" and ran away.

I forgot what these guys were flying. But they had performed earlier. K asked to get a picture with them, too.

This is a jet powered semi. It did not fly. It did not tow a trailer. It did go really, really fast for about 5 seconds, and then hit the brakes and released a parachute to stop. It also shot flames everywhere. Overall, pretty cool. Very redneck.

Kit planes doing tricks.

Kit planes doing more tricks (no the one out of formation is NOT crashing).

Kit planes. Check out the new guy. He must have built his smoke maker himself, too.

Geico has some planes that go to air shows. I don't know why having planes go to airshows saves you money, but they claim it does. I don't believe them.

I have no idea. C hates loud noises (except the sound of his own voice screaming at his little sisters), but it doesn't appear there is a plane going over head. I mean, nobody else seems to be looking up or paying attention to anything. Wait, maybe he could hear the sound of the BYU football team sucking. Funny kid.
