Day 23 - Carthage Jail

There is such a spirit that still dwells in these church history sites after all the years. A spirit so strong that reverence most as they walk the same paths the Joseph Smith and those brave saints did over 100 years ago. I'm so grateful for those strong saints and the path the led for us to follow. For the prophet Joseph Smith giving his life to restore the gospel to the earth in the latter days. Once you feel such a spirit there is no denying the spirit of God and the love he has for each and every one of his children. I don't regret the time we spent showing the kids these places and allowing the spirit that dwells there to touch their hearts. We have spent almost a year teaching them about Joseph Smith in FHE. I was amazed how much they have absorbed and remembered as they got to see the actual sites.

Outside the front of the jail.

The top window where Joseph fell down to the well below.

The window Joseph Smith fell out of after he was shot and killed.
The room were the mob charged and started shooting the
prophet Joseph Smith, John Taylor, and Hyrum Smith.

The bullet hole through the door that shot Hryum Smith in the face.

After the jail tour we ate a quick peanut butter sandwich in the parking lot. I thought it was funny seeing all the kids lined up on the curb as Cheeto stood, arms crossed, watching them and for cars. HURRY UP! NO TALKING! JUST EAT! :)
